How do I begin? The following documents
provide the basis for what you need in order to encode and contribute a
document to the EADA Database.
Documents for downloading:
The DTD:
The DTD used for this project is a TEI Document Type Definition created from a subset of the TEI. Right-click on the link above and save this file as "eada.dtd". This file is used for parsing the document each editor makes to ensure its accuracy compared to other project documents. A DTD is a a machine-readable text file that includes syntax that lists tags belonging to the project's tag-set. By parsing against the DTD, the editor is sure his/her document is encoded correctly.
The XML
Template: This document can be used as a basic template for encoding each document. Right-click on the link above and save this file as "EADAHeader.xml" in the same directory as the DTD.
The free text editor, "Jedit": This program can be used to electronically "parse" or compare the editor's XML document against the DTD to determine if there are any enocoding errors. Right-click on the link above and save this file as "jedit41install.jar". Set-up Information.
